I see a lot of patients every week with lower back pain. Although back problems can arise through accidents, often back injury is a result of loss of flexibility and suppleness of the spine over time. When we lose our flexibility it becomes very easy for us to injure ourselves doing the most mundane of tasks, such as bending down to pick something up off the floor.
Therefore it stands to reason to aim to restore our flexibility by doing appropriate exercise. Well I found this wonderful little video on you tube and it’s called Pilates for Lower Back Pain and it gives some gentle flexibility exercises for the Lower back, that when done daily can help to reduce back pain and discomfort.
Now because of my work I know the benefit of daily stretching and core strengthening exercises. In this set of exercises the Lumbar rolls are probably the most difficult, however if you find the rolls difficult just aim to pull your knees as close to your chest as you comfortably can to get a nice stretch for your lumbar spine and leave the rolls for now.
Remember with all stretching and exercise routines begin gently building up over time. This is a great little routine, but please consult with your own Physiotherapist or Chiropractor to ensure that this routine will benefit your particular condition.
Hope you enjoy the video, and leave a comment and tell me how you get on.
